Hi does anyone know how to detect the browser language, like if someone was spanish or german etc?

I want to use this to set a variable.

my book says u can do that this way:navigator.language
but it works for javascript 1.2 & higher (that means not in ie4.x & ie5.0, but in nn4.x & higher+ie5.5)
