Hi,

I hope someone can help me to solve the problem about the Language bar in Access forms.

I recently take over an international project that needs to data entry other language beside English. Therefore, I turned on the Language bar with the IME on so I can start using hand recognition feature to data entry. It works great when data entry on other language in Access 2003. However, when I need to data entry English (only), I found the language bar can not be turning off due to the IME even I close the language bar.

I research online for almost a month and there is no answer but removing the IME option. I wonder is there anyone can help me to solve this problem? I am using Window XP Profession and Access 2003.

Thank you very much

Is it possible to just have the end users (for now, anyway), just uncheck the language toolbar from the task pane? So, they right-click on the (blue = default color) bar at the bottom of Windows (default location), and choose Toolbars, then uncheck Language Bar...

Is that a possibility that you've tried, at least to see? The way that works, it should still be there, but at least not be visible.

Another thought from the database side. Is your Access database split? Does it have a front end and a back end? If not, the splitting the database could do it, I suppose. You could have a separate front end for the English users separate from the others, and then perhaps MS Office wouldn't require the language bar for the English users, as the IME portion (perhaps) could be just on the other front end(s).

Thank you for your replied.

The database is front end in Access and back end in SQL Server. We have so many different databases (same front end and back end), but it seems like the MS office Access application picks up the Language bar no matter in which database.

I tried to ask users to uncheck the language bar, but when users need to switch back and forth the databases(international and english only), the language bar is on unless removing the IME from the control bar completely.

This is the frustration part.

Any suggestion?

Thanks.

So far, it's looking to me that in order to enable/disable the language bar automatically, you'd have to possibly work with the shell (or some other way to access the Windows system), and update the registry entry for that application from some VBA code perhaps, using an API if you can find one that references the langauge bar... Of course you may can use Shell to locate the language bar, and kill it when you load the English only database.....

That's all I can seem to think or find right now..

Here's another reference where someone found the registry way to turn off the language bar:

If it's just a minor annoyance, I'd instruct the users to just ignore it. It isn't the end of the world. [wink]
