Situation:
I am finding the LAN down. Cannot ping anyone or anything from anywhere. Noticed on server hub/switch blinking orange collission light flashing. Trace down the problem of (teacher hooking up two uplink patchcords between two little netgear hub switches so remove one) and all is well. All computer talkingand pinging again. Think I have it licked. Next day, same problem except no blinking collision light. So this time I cannot trace it down but found a uplink from one major Dlink hub/switch to the Dell Gigbyte main hub/switch intermittent when I would wiggle the cable. Replace cable and tried cross cable, with no change. Notice special uplink port on that Dlink hub/switch not being used so I try that to Dell Gigbyte, get steady light with no wiggle problem and after a little while most talking except for ISA Server which after reboot starts talking with LAN. Again, think I have it solved. But no
Next day, come in and all is down and unable to ping anyone. Unplug all from Dlink and no change, plug all back in and no change. Go in server room and plug and unplug server to server room 8 port gigbyte hubswitch and soon all computers can ping. Stayed good all day.
Come in early today and all is well. Hard to fix when not acting broken.
The only major events in the server event viewers are . Event 5719 NETLOGON "No Windows NT or Windows 2000 Domain Controller available for the domain WSD. etc."
This of course would make sense if nothing can communicate with anything else.
Do You have any good ideas of what to check. It feels more like a hardware issue than a software issue although I do have some event warning concerning the system on the ISA not being able to register the network adapter WAN NIC Event ID 11153 Sourse DnsApi which refers to DNS refusing to accept an dynamic update request...
Anyway, I have lots of warning errors to work on today. Any Ideas and help would be greatly appreciated.
