I was able to deploy 256/128Kbps V-SAT system in my company but the existing LAN/WAN has no ristrictions or security. Right now I have about 55 users on the network and the primary objective of the V-SAT is for internet browsing at least for now.

But because there is no control on the LAN, the system is completely weight down making it difficult to browse (I guess due to virus infection).

The setup is directly from the gateway to a DHCP smothwall then distributed through both structured cabel and few wireless points. These means you can plug your system in any of the points and you are connected. There is nothing like authentication/username or password.

Can somebody please tell me what I need to put in place to achieve total control on the LAN. I equally want to place some ristriction on some sites to visit.

You need to start by looking at what your budget is. You have 55 users and a very poor LAN set up. You will need to design a domain and install Active Directory.

Do your users belong to a remote office?

My budget is now adequate for setting up a better network. All my users are in thesame location.

Please give me a step by step guide to how I can build a better network with good security. I have once tried setting up the active directory on win2000 server but it did'nt work.

What are the additional hardware I may need to achieve my aim.

Thanks in advance.
