I'm on IExplorer 5.5 SP-2 on Windows 95. When I go to Tools-->Internet Options and click on Connections, the "LAN settings" button is greyed out. I have re-installed IExplorer, and it's still greyed out. Any ideas? The PC is on a Novell network, and is connecting.

The SA might have imposed a "policy" locally on that PC to restrict access. Policies are usually found in networked environments on older OS's like Win95/98/ME that don't use NTFS.

I think you can lock it down using TweakUI as well, though I'm not sure about that one. ~cdogg

I am the SA. We are in a school environment, so sometimes the gremlins (aka students) do things to machines, and we have no idea what they did. Any ideas about how to get this back? Is there a registry key I can remove?

Weezie62:

Check to see if one of the gremlins placed this key in the registry:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]
"Connection Settings"=dword:00000001

If they did, either delete it or change the Dword value to 0

Look at faq608-2227

Except look under Internet Explorer folder. See if Disable connection settings has been enabled. joegz

OK--I went back to the PC and LAN settings was no longer greyed out. In the interim, the teacher had gone to Microsoft.com and downloaded the critical updates. Thanks for your help :)
