This machine is XP pro in a domain, current on patches, etc. If I go to Tools>Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings>Advanced to change the Exceptions settings, I am not able to do so because the LAN Settings button is grayed out.

This is not the result of a policy issue. It is the only instance of this problem we have ever seen in our organization.

I am hoping someone out there might know if there is a registry setting I can tweak to turn the button back on.

PS- I will probably post this in another forum area.

In the registry go to:
[blue]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel[/blue]

Verify that the following 3 keys are properly set to 0.

Connection Settings - 0x00000000 (0)
Connections Tab - 0x00000000 (0)
Proxy - 0x00000000 (0)

Start, Administrative Tools, Services
One of the key services is not running.

Sorry, my answer was way too short:
Workstation
Server
Both Remote Procedure Call sevices
DNC Client
DHCP Client

All of these services are needed.

Thanks guys, I'll try these ideas shortly and let you know.

Cdogg, I have no branch named Internet Explorer under the Policies folder in my registry. Any input?

bcastner, I looked at all the services you listed, the only one not started was RPC Locator. Compared to other machines here that is normal condition, so I think that is not it.

Any other insights?

It should be Microsoft under the Policies folder, then Internet Explorer. Also, make sure you're under HKEY_CURRENT_USER

Cdogg, there is NO such folder in my registry. The only two choices I have under Policies are Messenger and System Certificates!

Wazzup widat?

HEY CDOGG!

Yo, it finally occurred to me, "why not CREATE the keys?"

Badda-bing, what an idea! It worked! THANKS, MAN!
