hi all new to site but already looks like the online bible to me!

I have 2 systems running xp pro with a nic card in each one, both connecting to a hub with straight throughs.

the problem i have is the second pc "has PCI simple communications device" marked with a question mark in the device manager, have tried running through hardware wizard but pc will not recognise any compatible driver altrhough the nic card has installed ok its a 3com 10/100 etherlink.

Hi also new to his site must say looks pretty good so far.

Regards your issue a simple communications device refers to a modem most likely on-board you could try running update driver wizard and when asked if you would like windows to connect to internet select yes you may be lucky, alternatively check make and model of system board and contact manufacturers.

Hope this helps [2thumbsup]
