Hey,
one of my desktops LAN devive isnt doing anything, the PC knows its there, says it connected to the network, but wont obtain IP, subnet, DNS or gateway; even if they are manually set, in status it just says '<unavailable>'.
I'v reinstalled the drivers, but failed to actually update them.

I think this problem may have somthing to do with a XP reinstall a while ago.

it's a
Sis 900-Based PCI fast Ethernet adapter
in XP home
the driver date is 22 feb 06

Thanks for any help

Ok..interesting development:
something i didnt mention before, the PC is running 2 versions of Win XP

one works with the network adapter...one dosen't

any idears?

You say "the PC knows its there" but if you go to Netwrok Connections and right-click it is it enabled? Is there a red-x-and-two-screens icon in the system tray?

No, the computer knows its there, it knows it's connected, it just cant get a IP etc. on that version of windows

Have you tried rolling back the drivers on the card?
Have you tried the winsock reset? (netsh winsock reset)

Yes i tried rolling back the drivers, but there wasn't any prevoius versions.
I havn't tried winsock, but i got bored with trying to fix it and just re-installed windows (eventually)
thanks anyway guys!
