Morning all.
I have some questions that I want to try and get answered before a LAN Party that I am having this coming weekend. So far I have been lucky and all has worked out alright but I am sure that I can pull more from the system.
First I like running the 3com Network Supervisor and now the new 3Com Director software. Here is what I have and what it is used for.
Xincom dual WAN router/DHCP server. 10.0.0.1 --255.255.254.0
Switch 4007 (like my old Corebuilder 9000) 10.0.0.2--255.255.254.0 on the EME (Engine) Master Switch. Lots of Q's to come from this.
3900 10.0.0.3-6 -- 255.255.254.0 Four of them, connected with the fibre uplink to the 4007. Table Switches
4228G 10.0.0.7--255.255.254.0 Connected with the fibre uplink to the 4007. table switch
9300 10.0.0.8-9 -- 255.255.254.0 Not sure if I am going to use these or not.
3300 10.0.0.10-11 255.255.254.0 two of them connected with a cross over cable to a 20 port Layer 3 blade on the 4007. Table Switchs
Nortel Accelar 1200 10.0.0.12 -- 255.255.254.0 Connected to the 4007 with a fibre uplink. Table Switch
Here come the questions:
With the 4007 I cannot see it with the 3com software like I do the 3300's, 3900's ect. I just get a cloud. Do I need to assign an IP to each blade to beable to see it correctly?
All of the IP's are assigned as VLANs and this has worked so far to beable to play games and transfer file and such. Should all of these be the same VLAN? To be honest I am not to sure what a VLAN is but I know when I assign it like this I can see them in the 3com software.
Really the setup for all of the switchs is different on how they word it. I wish they were all like the 4228G and had a spot to assign an IP adderss for the switch and word it like that and not ip->interface->define->VLAN.
Thank you in advance.
