Hi there, i have a question regarding a lan that I tried to setup but has some issues.

Basically this is how the network is:

WEB
!
router (draytek vigor 2910)
! !
server switch
! ! ! !
pc1pc2pc3 etc

I have assigned (using Bind IP to MAC) the IP 192.168.20.10 to the server (windows server 2003)
the router is at 192.168.20.1
each client pc is at 192.168.20.11, 192.168.20.12, 192.168.20.13 etc, there are only 4 pcs at the moment.

I am a beginner and I thought i'd just figure out how to do the settings on the server (wrongly apparently).
This is what I did (please see screen copy):

LAN%20settings.JPG

Now what is happening is that the server is not able to authenticate the client pcs. This is the error messages I am getting in the clients logs:

Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

The name " deleted " could not be registered on the Interface with IP address 192.168.20.11. The machine with the IP address 192.168.20.10 did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine.

I checked on the server the dns and wins settings and they all seemed to be fine, and I was told it may be something to do with the way the router was set up, but I don't have a clue on what I did wrong. I am sure it's something really obvious.

It would be great great great if someone could spot what's wrong!! :)

ps: the internet works fine, the clients pc can connect to the server, but the connection is not secure, as they are not authenticated, and this causes internal problems.

the diagram does not show very nicely, it's
internet
!
router
!
server connected to router ! switch connected to router
!
client pcs connected to switch

can someone help? I dont know what do to.

I would like to know if the settings on the router are correct.

Many thanks, Thomas

Connect the server to the switch that the pc's are on.
