hey,

i have a windows XP host machine which runs cable broadband and i have my other laptop running mandrake and i was just wondering if someone could explain to me how to get the mandrake system connected to the net trhough the XP machine kind of like how windows machines do it.

THanks

Alex

From my expirements before. When you do internet connection sharing, the XP Box starts an DHCP server. So all that should be needed to do is setup Mandrake to accept DHCP.

See my progress to converting to linux.

Open a console, su to root, and run drakconnect. Let it automatically detect your network card, connect through the local area network, and set it to obtain an IP address automatically (from the XP machine). The linux computer can't tell whether the 'gateway' to the internet is an xp computer or a hardware router.

Thanks, that was hell ehklpful but most of all, simple... thanks

Alex

ps you got a star for simplicity

Another thing, once ive run drakeconnect, do i have to configure my browser (Mozilla) to connect through my LAN????? Also, what is another good browser i can try (in ur opinion better than Mozilla
