I want to make connection between my Desktop and Laptop to share files using LAN cable. Please help me with to do.

Note: I want to make connection without using router.

When I connect my Laptop and Desktop using LAN cable, LAN is always disconnected (Ethernet light is not blinking). However, when I connect one end to router and other end system (Desktop/Laptop) light is blinking.

Am I miss anything? Please throw some lights.

Appreciate your help.

Thank you,
sasi

You need a crossover cable for a direct connection between two machines, you are most likely using a standard straight-through cable.

Thanks. I think I am using crossover cable. However, let me double check the cable.

Can you let me know how to achieve it without using crossover cable? can I achieve it through routers?

Please explain.
