I have another question. If my motherboard supports 10/100 mbps and I go and buy a 10/100/1000 card..will it help my internet speeds at all if my provider only goes to 100mbps??

If your internet goes up to 100Mb, you're a very lucky man. For example 8-15Mb is the maximum we can really get here. If you've already got a 10Mb card, you won't see a speed increase until you are at least close to that limit.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

So if I am running at the speeds you mentiones (which I probably am) it would be pretty useless to buy a 30 dollar 10/100/1000 card?

That's right. If you can find out what speed your connection is, you'll know for sure. The cards are cheap, but it would be a shame to spend it when it's not needed!

Even if you are surpassing 10Mb, you can pick up second hand 100mb cards for about 50p (around $1) these days.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

You will never get past the speed of a 100Mbit ethernet card with an Ethernet connection (which will never exceed 10Mbps until many years), so unless you have driver problems or that the hardware is damaged, do not bother.

Thanks for the help guys. I will save my cash!
