Hello,

We have a problem at our small company (about 15 users) that some users monopolize the internet. Sometimes users bring internet access at the company to a state that we have to reset our equipment.

I'm looking for a tool (preferably freeware) that monitor real time bandwidth usage on a LAN and shows the bandwidth usage (upload/download) for every networked device on the LAN by IP.

I don't care what they do, I just want to be able to go to the specific user and ask him/her to stop doing whatever it is they are doing that monopolizes internet access for everyone else.

I've been looking for something like crazy and I couldn't find anything for LAN monitoring. There are a lot of options for a single computer but not for LAN.

I found something called Active Wall something... it's not bad but it shows total traffic used by a host. I need to see a breakdown of download and upload usage by host.

Could someone please refer me to such tool? If not freeware, I am willing to buy something as long as it is not over priced.

Thank you,

I do not know of any freeware that will drill down to an IP address that is causing this issue, but I can tell you some hardware tricks you can use to track down the user.

First, a question... Are you using a managed switch?
