I have setup a new LAN network and (unfortunately) the router is a Siemens 5940. My main problem is that from the outside I can ping any device on the LAN if it is NAT translated public to private. BUT from the LAN I can ping the router but NOT beyond the router. My guess is that the router is filtering/blocking all LAN to WAN access but I cannot determine if it is or what command to use. I do have the tech manuals.
Also, I can telnet into a server but what should normally be a rather instant connection to get a login prompt it takes upwards of 2-3 minutes (go figure). Does ANYONE have any IDEAS as to what might be happening?

Also on this issue when I do get a telnet connection to an inside server and do a who on the server ALL connections are listed as the SAME IP which is the LAN IP of the router. Shouldn't this be the IP of the source device (or at least its NAT pool address?).

Thanks for ANY assistance, ideas, help, etc that anyone can provide.

Signed - very tires and very frustrated - Bob

do u have a default route to the internet... this tells your LAN where to go for non-local traffic...

the reason it takes long for u get a telnet prompt is because of reverse addressing.. here, the remote server tries to identify the hostname and machine requesting a connection, by using DNS to map the connecting ip back to a hostname... u may need to setup DNS to reduce the connection time...

u get to see the same IP for all connection because u NAT config most probably says masquerade all these private IPs to this single public IP address, which may be on your serial interface, or on the interface connected to your ISP/telco equipment.. these are basic NAT rules...

good luck..
