lack of performance compared to PC

Hi,
I just invested in a sun ultra 10 system(333, 9gig, 128, Sol8)
However I am not noticing any performace differences compared to my athlon 600 PC.
In fact things seem to run slower and bulkyer on the sun.
For example staroffice takes a while to load, so does netscape and forte for java.

Also switching between the different desks, it takes a couple of seconds for all the items to appear.
Is there any thing I can do of tweak to get a major performance improvement. At the moment I am having doubts about sun systems.
Please change my mind.

Well, all i can say is the Ultra 10 use IDE hard disks, also 128MB of Ram seems to short ..., how big is the "swap" area on Ultra 10 and for cmp how many RAM do you have in your "Athlon" ?, the best thing to try is add more Ram !

I agree with Carlos, adding some RAM will certainly help improve performance.
Also dont expect a tremendous gain of performance just because you switched to SUN. SUNS processor may clock twice as fast as intel, so a 333 mhz sun will compare to 600 mhz intel, but is not much faster.
Look at the good side, with SUN you gained reliability and upgradability.

I have allocated 1.5gig for swap space.
Could the lack of memory also prevent me from playing 25fps+
mpeg videos. Cuz playback is so jerky and slow.
