I have an extension that cannot be reached from the system directory. If someone calls our main number, hits *2 and hits the first 4 digits of this guys last name, it bounces back to the operator.

I'm trying to use winspm to correct this problem, but I can't find where to make the change. I thought it was under labeling, but it seems that only changes the name that shows up on the screens of our internal phones. Can I use Winspm to correct the name in the directory ? Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Thanks,
Bill

If you're using merlin messaging, you need to either administer name support from the system administrator mailbox "0", pc software or configure messaging from the ConfigMM menus on console or spm.

Simply updating the extensions data label from a console/spm doesn't automatically pass new names to the voice messaging system.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess that what I can't find is the ConfigMM menu under spm. Should I see that option off the main menu ?

As long as your messaging system is configured with standard calling groups, etc. you should be fine using the built in configuration routine. Just to be sure, you might want to create a backup/restore point before proceeding just in case.

Also.. depending on what messaging hardware you're using, these options may or may not appear.

Sys Program > Start > System > Config M.Msg > Update with labels

Otherwise, the manual approach is to access the voice mail system's sysadmin box then > 9# > 2 > (Ext No.) > 1 > 2

Thanks for you input, I must have a different software version because I don't see the Config M.Msg option. I was finally able to change the name through the system admin box. My confusion stemmed from when I played back the mail box configuration, I heard only the recorded name. I didn't know that when you go modify the "name", it gives you the chance there to change the 4 letters associated with the directory, as well as the recorded name.
