We need a lab MSCS environment which we can break, rather than our live setup. I have a sandbox Compaq Proliant 7000 server . I want to install MSCS as a standalone node on it , without a second node . This gives me no failvoer, but gives me a chance to configure databases etc. in an MSCS environment. Needless to say, I have no shared disk array etc. I installed NT 4 EE edition on the server. However when I try to install MSCS, there is a window during the installation, which asks me to choose the shared disk for the cluster. And the list is blank. Since I cannot choose the disk, I cannot proceed with the installation. I do have a lot of hardware RAID configured disk arrays , but none of them show up in the MSCS installation. What should I do, so that I can see my disks in the cluster installation procedure ? Thanks ..

There's a switch you can use when running the cluster service setup that will allow you to locate the Quorum partition on a local disk, rather than a shared array.

You need to have a copy of the NT Enterprise Edition Component CD, and go to the MSCS/Cluster/i386 directory and run setup with the '-localquorum' switch.

See MS KB article q245626 for more info.

Hi ShackDaddy,

The tip works like a charm. I actually have Cluster up and running now. The other problem I have now, is that I need to add my local disks such as D:, E:, F: etc as resources. If I cannot add disk resources to the cluster, I will not be able to install applications and cluster them, thus making my lab incomplete. I am sure you have a way out.....
Thanks in advance...
