Hi

I am accepting both L2TP and PPTP connections on my VPN server however I am able to make a connection but I cannot see any resources and I get no reply when I try to ping any machines on the LAN over the VPN connection. Do I need to run a certificate server for the l2tp connections to work properly?

Any help is as always greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Chris

The default is to require a local computer certificate to make a L2TP connection. It is possible to make a connection using preshared keys with some registry editing. See
Having said that, lack of a certificate or preshared key should cause a problem before a connection is made. You say you are able to make the connection, so I would eliminate that as an immediate problem.

Make the connection, open the status dialog for the connection on the client and click on the details tab. What happens when you ping the 'server' address given there?

Hi,

I can ping the IP shown as the server address, however this address is the same as the client address is this correct?

Also having checked the VPN server machine I have found that it does not have the IP address shown in the details box on the client, this must have been allocated by the router which is also the DHCP server, is this correct?

Thanks for you help

Chris
