I have a customer with what I believe to be a KX-TD816 but I'm not sure. I'm a Norstar tech trying to help a customer out and not doing a very good job so far. I have pics but don't know where to go.
Any help appreciated.
You should be able to track down a manual online - it's not a very complex system - completely different from Nortel though! No "English" menu programming and you define which phones will ring from the line, not the set.
if it is a kxtd system it will be writen on the ksu. you can connect a pc with software to program and also you can program it all through the handset. what model is the handset?
I don't have a clue, I was only on site once. Sorry to be so vague but it is for a good cause, The Salvation Army.
Thanks so much for your input, I really do appreciate it.
if there is a spare port and voice mail on the system it is straight forward, but you will have to know what model the system is for us to give you the correct info.
either call back and look at the system or call them and ask them to look at the system control box and seewhat is on it.
other problem you could have is the password may be changed on the system by installer
The only things I can find on the front "8EXT Digital Super Integrated System" and the voice mail "TV550 Voice Processing System" I'm pretty sure that's what it says I just took pics when I was out there and there a little hard to read.
If its a 816 you shoul have 7 spare ports with 8 phones and 1 port used as voice mail. the spare extensions should be on the 8 ext module. if you put the photos up on a photo site you can attach link on the forum
So it's an 816. The computer doesn't do much, since the Voice Mail is added from the system owner's box just as easily. Try #6 *999 and if you're lucky it has no password. If you're not, you need the owner's password to "add a mailbox". It's option 5 or 6 and follow the prompts. If you don't have the system passwords, then you may be able to use the serial port with hyperterm to get into the admin programming and reset the passwords for mailbox 998 and 999.
As far as adding an extension, the system uses the 8 jacks on the main cabinet and the 1st and 2nd pairs or first or 2nd pair of every 3 in the expansion card cable. If they are undisturbed, they are numbered 101-116. You can plug in 3 types of phones, an analog or digital Panasonic phone or a single line telephone. They will use 2 pairs the 2nd pair or the 1st pair respectively.
