I wanted to be able to dial phone numbers from Outlook, which was able to do by attaching a fax modem to the XDP port on my phone. I can configure dialing rules to successfully grab a line and dial the number, but the modem does not automatically disconnect from the line after I pick up the receiver. Instead I have to click on another box that says lift receiver and then another box to end the call, and then finally close the call contact dialogue box--makes the whole thing more trouble than it is worth.

I realize that the main problem probably lies in the fact that the TD816 was not really meant to be used in this manner or in conjunction with a PC, but still. Is there any kind of configuration, add in or program that simply will dial a number from Outlook by clicking on call contact without having to go through a whole bunch of extra steps?

is this a -4 or higher theres a panasonic tapi tsp driver
for your pc that is available from the website rander
that will let you dial from your panasonic phone from
your computer all you need is a bsic pc workstation in the
phone room on the network and the fun begins

I've demo'ed this programm very cool makes your KX-TD
a cti platform. Shawn

Thank-you to cwc3 for answering...The information provided was helpful, but if you see this, maybe you could answer few more quick questions.

1 The software vendor seems to imply that we have to fabricate the interface cable ourselves. Is this true or is there a cable available from Panasonic-or elsewhere?

2 Does this software replace the phone on my desk, work in conjunction with my current phone, or can it be used either way?

1 the cable is just like a modem cable db 25 to db 9 and you add a null modem adapter from radio shack.and off you
go you can watch the call info come off the switch just
by setting up a serial hyperterminal session 9600,mark,8,1
no flow control (that is providing that the rs-232 parameters are set a default some guy's/installers will kick it up to 19,200)

2 the software works in conjunction with your phone
do you guys have an in house network guy?to have real fun
you will have to have that tapi interface seen by the whole network and I am not network specialist by no means
but I have had the KX-TD hotwired into my office pc and
you are able to do a lot of cool things provided it is a
-4 or higher.

The TAPI driver has to be installed on one PC that is connected to the phone system. That same PC is then required to be installed on the network so that all other PC's on the network can 'see' it.

You then need to have client/server software installed on the PC's. The server software needs to be installed on the PC connected to the phone system. The client software goes on each PC that wants to use the CTI program.

Basically if the software is in anyway decent, you should be able to select a CTI server source (via IP) and also select which extension you are using (on each of the clients) and that info is passed to the server machine which in turn requests info from the phone system / passes info from the phone system to the client.

If you only want it for one machine, its easy, you just install the both levels of software on the same machine and away you go. If you want more than one client, then you need to look at client / server software.

When I get a chance I'll have a look at this Rander software and see what it can do.

Thank-you to all for the clarification--the network aspect of setting this up will actually be the easy part of this for me...

I know you mention that we must be using a -4 model or later...at the same time the software vendor specifies that the PBX must be on firmware P271C or later which means the box would have been made after 2000. In looking at our PBX, the sticker on the bottom does not specifiy -(anything) Sorry to sound a little naiive here, but is the -4 simply an indicator of the firmware of is there an actual hardware difference, and how do I find out for sure which version of TD-816 hardware and/or firmware I have? Are there any other options if my hardware will not support this software?

go to program 116 post your info i can tell what rev you are .you are in the states right?

I'm sorry to take so much of your time, but can you clarify what program 116 is? is this somthing I can access from my extension? If so how?

yes providing you have the stock password on the system
you must go to jack 01/ext 101 by default. hit the program
button then key in *#1234 you'll see "SYS-PGM NO?" on the display then key in 116 it will say "116 ROM VERSION" hit speaker (you may have to hit zero if the rom info is not diplayed on the lcd at that point) write info down really only need the P +3 numbers and the letter that you see to figuir out what -rev you have. then hit hold then program your done
post your findings ....you never said if you were in the states or not?
