I have a Panasonic d816 phone system in a residential home. Have several multi line desk phones connected to the system along with two cordless kx-td7896 phones. The home doorbell/speaker/intercom is also connected to the system. Unfortunately, both cordless phones are no longer working and have appeared to be discontinued by Panasonic. New ones are now about $600 to $700. Is there a replacement cordless phone that would work with this system preferably with at least 2 line capability?

Could I buy a regular 2-line cordless phone from the local big box retailer or do I have to get a system specific phone? If not, would a one-line cordless phone from a big box retailer work with the system?

Would it be worth replacing the system at this point since it seems to have been discontinued? I want to make sure that in any new system I get that the doorbell/speaker function works and that The system works with 2-line cordless phones that are readily available.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

The TD7896 are the latest model that work on that system, nothing else newer or current will work. You could plug in a 'big box' store 1 or 2-line cordless phone but it wouldn't integrate fully. I would suggest upgrading the phone system. Depends on the phones you have you may be able to keep all existing desk phones. You can then get the good cordless phones, TCA185, 285, 385. If you're not familiar with the newer Panasonic systems, you'll need a certified dealer.
