I have KX-TD1232 that has been sitting around I'm trying to set up. I'm trying to do some programming using the Panasonic for Dealers Software I can connect but keep getting error code 91 every time. Is this a cable issue? It seems to be connected. Or is this and issue with the system/software?

this is a quick test if your serial cable is right create a hyper-terminal connection set at 9600 Mark 8 1 no flow control and >click the connect icon> first thing you should see scrolling across the screen is ATDT and a long string of digits and letters and then you will see call accounting info if you dont see what I just described try a null modem adapter and repeat .....

Know this isn't what you're asking....but have you tried just programming thru the operator's phone/x101? (it's easy on that system) Program, *#xxxx (xxxx is whatever system PW is, default is 1234) to get into programming menu.

I had opened up Hyper terminal (Tera Term since I'm on windows 7) to see if I get anything and didn't see anything I had gotten some random characters the fist time I plugged it in but figured that was just due to me pluging it in while it was on. Rebooted it several time after that and got nothing. I'm using a USB serial programmer and a null modem cable that I've used on some Cisco/Linksys equipment and know work fine. However I'm having to use and adapter for 9pin to 25pin which may be the culprit.

Is there any advantage to using the software over just programming through the phone? Or anything that can't be programmed though the phone? I know how to program though the phone though the manager/operator extensions and that's how I've been doing basic programming. I also have a TVS200 I'm trying to set up can it be programed from the phone as well?

You can do just about everything through the phone short of an SMDR printout which requires a printer. If you've got the manuals for the system, you'll notice how all the programming steps are written with the user programming from the phone, not PC. To me, it's more trouble hooking up the computer than it is to just do it manually (the newer TDA systems are another story).

You WILL need a computer for programming the VPS, though....no way around that. I've had numerous problems with USB/serial adapters and finally just went back to the old Toshiba Satellite (Windows 98) with a serial port I use for programming those. However, I did finally manage to find a USB/serial adapter at Micro Center that I can confirm works on the TVS50, though (haven't tried it on any other models yet). I've also had several null modem cables that work fine with voicemails but not with KSUs (never the opposite though and don't know how to explain it).

If you haven't done it before, programming those TVS's is like learning another language. Although it's made primarily for end -users, this website ( puts it in very clear and easy to follow terms. Feel free to post back if you get stuck.

I'm not sure the vps I currently have is working, when I plug it in I just get a series of 4 flashes followed by a pause. I get nothing in the terminal but it may be the cable. As far as the phone system, the little programming I have done through the phone seems pretty straight forward and I may just stick to that. Is there much difference in the TVS's? I have a TVS200 and may be able to get my hands on a TVS75 to play with, One of our customers has a TVS50. I haven't had to do anything with it yet but may have to in the future. It there any differences? I seen the spec sheets on them as far as features go but not sure on programming. The TVS50 seems to be the basic unit and then the TVS75 seems to have more advanced features and then upward from that just seems like more mailboxes, etc. Thanks for the info especially the link seems to have some good info there. I can use all the info I can get my hands on.

Every time I reboot the kx-td1232 I get "ATQ0E0V1S0=1X0&D0" and nothing else is this correct?

4 flashes means the hard drive has failed...not at all uncommon for these older units. Once they're powered down after years of spinning then powered up again they frequently stop working. Best replace the unit with one of the flash based ones (the hard drive is not a regular PC one, it has Pana-specific ROMS/firmware and replacements are very expensive).

All of the TVS series are nearly identical in programming - only ones that are different are the newer TVA's which have USB and an improved interface with their own software. The TVS50 actually came out after the 75....main differences are the 50 is flash-based (rather than HDD), has only 32 mailboxes (vs 64), has the newer voice prompts, and lacks the "company greetings" feature (you just have to use different custom service prompts instead) found in the 75/80/90/95/& up.

I'd try to locate a used TVS50, 80, 90 or 95. Those are all flash-based units that are cheap and readily available....much quieter than the HDD-based ones and I've never had one die.

So back to programming though the phone. I have the system setup with just one co line right now for testing, I have buttons 1 through 8 setup for co line 1-8. I can call into the system button 1 flashes and I can pick up the call. However when I try to make a call from line one I get "Co Not Assigned" what am I missing here?

Go to field 005 of system programming, enter jack number 01, press the button you're wanting to program, enter 001, then press store to save....should work after that.

Thats exactly what I did still says "co not assigned" but flashes when called.

Check program 400 and see if lines are enabled
If yes try 406 co out day (may be different code on your system)
Enter jack no or star for all extensions and see if assigned for outgoing calls
