We have an ncp-500 with all IP phones and analog trunks, there is an echo on all the ip phone on external calls at the beginning of the call (fades away after a few seconds). i have tried a digital phone and no problems so i know it's not the CO lines.
Also we have setup the same configuration with many TDE-100's with no problems. any idea's?

The loudness of the side tones (hearing your self back) on VOIP calls is no worse than PSTN calls. The difference is that because of the inherent delay induced by VOIP causes the delay (echo) of the side tones which is much more noticeable.so even though the side tones are there on the digital phones as well, the delay coming back to the VOIP can cause the echo.

Over compression can also cause this problem.

You could get a echo canceling card, but it is expensive, or try reducing the gain on the co lines or the ip phones a bit

Are the ip to ip calls OK?

if you using all IP phones, you can try to disable the side tone.

I have the same problem with my NCP1000 and IP phones. We have an echo at the beginning of calls which will sometimes return at various point in the call. Some users have reported hearing echo for the entire duration of their calls.

ccltech, were you able to resolve the problem?

How do I disable the side tone?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You can try changing the NLP Setting in the card properties of your Virtual IP Extension card.

Thanks, I've changed the NLP setting from Weak to Strong and asked my users for feedback.

Do you recommend changing any of the other settings on the Extension card? Echo Canceler Ability, DSP Digital Gain (Up/Down), and EC Gain are all at their default settings.

Users are still reporting echo after making the above change. Any other thoughts?

Your help is very appreciated.
