Hi I was wondering if any one can help me I have just got a new kvm switch and am having problems with the key board. All 4 ports of the kvm are in use 2 on xp machines and the other 2 on server 2003 after a reboot all 4 seem to work but on both of the servers the key board can only type intermittently and makes bleeping sounds if u type fast it does not display all of the characters any help would be greatly appreciated

Does the keyboard work on the servers as a stand alone unit?
You may need to manually add the drivers to the w2k3 boxes?

hi thanx
yes it works on both servers they seem to work on the kvm but intermitintly every time u press the key it will respont with a bleep and only sumtimes will the character come up on the screen. but if u think i need to install the drivers how would i go about doing this on the kvm

many thanx again

If your keyboard works on the 2k3 servers as a stand alone unit then I would suspect the issue lies with kvm and or connections, try different ports to connect to try to isolate this issue.
If you had issues with keyboard on 2k3 boxes I would suggest downloading the latest greatest drivers for the keyboard. Check the kvm documentation for compatibility and other details as well.

Suspect that you have a defective KVM. Most work out of the box and nothing should be required to have them work correctly.

I've seen several glitch like this. I'm not to S2003 yet but I have a KVM going on one next week.

thanx for all your help i will try this and get back to you all tomorrow and say how things went

I had a very similar problem with my Belkin Omniview a while ago. The cause on that occasion was the KVM being run without its own power supply (i.e drawing power from master console connections).

Most KVMs support this, but in my case not enough power was available and the units buffer intermittantly lost data causing missing characters and the resulting beep when it came back.

The belkins do like more power than some KB ports supply. But since power is drawn from whatever is active these failures with 4 ports supplying power would seem to me to be more than a power issue.

I have 2 cybex in use and both get flaky after 5 minutes or so with 1 port supplying power. When one quits responding I power up another computer and switch the active port over and back.
