I'm trying to convert a CDTower into an actual server. It has a KR632 MB, and it will NOT boot on anything other than the LINUX disks that come with it. I swapped hard drives, and it said "Insert Boot disk", I put in a Win9X boot disk, and it says "Invalid boot media". I put in the LINUX boot disk for installing the software... and it works fine. I can't seem to find anything in the BIOS limiting this? Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,
Ben

Have you tried fdisk? It sounds like the file format (partitions) are not fat/fat16/fat32 for Win98. ggebhart@clover.net

Well, I would try an fdisk... if I could get this thing to boot up on anything other than the LINUX it comes with. The ONLY floppy it will read is the supplied LINUX disk. Pretty much the same thing with the HardDrive.

If you can get to your bios "Advanced CMOS Setup" look for Boot to OS2 setting and see if it says yes or no. If it says yes change it to no....then boot and see if you can use your windows floppy.

If that doesn't work:

Try clearing cmos by checking your motherboard manual to see how.

If that doesn't work:

What kind of hard drive are you using? See if they have utilities to partition and format their hard drive. I know Western Digital does and it will prepare the disk for use with Windows. The file you download creates a floppy to boot from. You will have to have the windows floppy or cd ready to put in so it can partition it with fat32.

Let us know how it goes, there should be something you can do to get this to load windows. ggebhart@clover.net
