Hi all.

I'm not here to bash Microsoft (god knows there's anough people doing that anyway).

I've reserached MS-CRM solution (thoroughly I hope) and have concluded it just isn't for the SMEs of this world, nor is it for the faint hearted.

After many conversations with MS and MS Cert Patrners, developers and implementers, failed installations and demonstrations that were bland to say the least I have concluded that in order to deploy this "toy" effectively it would require 3 servers. Why...? Well, Exchange|CRM on the same box is a "non supported configuration" (we're already up to two boxes, and don't forget that CRM cannot run on any OS, it has to be a server OS. OK, so we put it on the DC (makes sense, no...?) Well actually - No...! Although this is a "supported configuration" it's best steered away from as I have heard from a few "real world" implementers that have had issues with this set-up and have placed CRM on its own dedicated box.

I could say more but I'm sure I'm going to get flamed anyway.

PS: I have yet to meet even a partner who can talk about this product with absolute confidence and quite frankly: If you stuck me in darkened a room for a few months with a bucket and fed me intravenously you'd get a bespoke solution that was a lot easier to use.

Actually CRM can be installed with Exchange, SQL, or both on the same server. Installing it on a Domain Controller is not recommened becuase of sign on and authentication errors that may occurr across the platform. SBS is the only way to install CRM on a DC. Where did you find out that information that those configurations were not supported? Most likely the reports module will fail if it is installed on the DC becuase of the different sign on process that Crystal requires. The most likly reason that it is not recommended to install CRM on an Exchange server is becuase Exchange is such a memory hog. The best 2 server config is to have CRM & SQL together and Exch & AD together.
