Crystal Report Version 10.0.0.533.
New to Crystal Report.

I wannna play around with a little SQL.

My 1st Question:
Why the following buttons in my menu are inactive,
1. Database-->Show SQL Query...
2. View-->Repository Explorer
3. View-->Field Explorer (no folder SQL Expression Fields)

Oh yeah, is it because the Database File I'm working with is a .db file? Because I know some Sample Reports are using .mdb files.

My 2nd Question:
Could you point to me a Tutorial that would teach how to utilize SQL in CrystalReport environment?

I am not looking for a SQL tutorial, i just want to know the produres of doing SQL in CR; I just want to see some Samples, Tutorials, Examples of people use SQL in CR...

Hi,
Until examples can be found, just try this:

Oper CR, select New report, pick a datasource that uses SQL, select, instead of a table, the Command
option and enter your SQL code just as it would be used with direct access to your database..

This will give you , in CR, the fields, etc to use in your report. ( You can, though it is not a good practice, even add additional selection criteria within CR to apply to the data returned by your SQL - it is more efficient, obviously, to include ALL the criteria in your where clause in the SQL.

CR passes the SQL command to the database unmodified.

Thank you.

I only have one .db file as my database on my computer, so I don't have any other database source to choose.

And I couldn't find the command option you're talking about.

Hi,
After choosing 'blank report' and selecting your database
connection, there should be an 'Add Command' option under your datasource choices. Are you using the Access/Excel connection?

You might try some of the really good books out on the market. Crystal can have a high learning curve. Once you start using it,, you need to write several reports,, so you remember what you are doing..
