Hi All,

Does anyone know of any serious issues with AIX52 ML7? We are planning an upgrade from ML6 to ML7 , but I've heard of perfomance problems with Oracle and ML7, and problems with libc as well.

thx in advance

Rgds,

R.

There seem to quite a few problems like file corruption and oracle performance hits. I would advise you install but don't commit, so you have the option of backing it out.

Just to point out one issue:

APARTXT IY74322 = extendvg dumps core with debug malloc on
If bos.rte.lvm 5.2.0.61 through 5.2.0.77 is installed and
the extendvg command is run there is a possibility that
freed memory will be accessed and cause LVM metadata to be
written into user data area.
This problem is extremely rare and requires specific timing
and specific use of memory. It will be more likely on
systems with high workload and a large number of disks in the
VG being extended. The location of the user data overwrite
is unpredictable and depends on the use of the freed memory.

For an "extremely rare" problem, I know of several major companies in my local area that have been affected by this issue.

I'm running several servers using ML7 with many extra absolutely necessary patches.
