Why, when I use the Windows98 FAT32 partition in Nkoppix does the ACPI BIOS driver in windows stop working and mess up the startup?
Just using KNoppix, but not mounting the Windows partition does not affect windows in any way.

Could not unmounting the windows partition at Linux shutdown do this?

Mounting it read-only might do, knoppix should unmount all mounted before shutting down.. Whats the windoz ACPI error messages you get.

. Mac for productivity
.. Linux for developement
... Windows for solitaire

Yes, that is very strange. Knoppix does umount all devices as it shuts down. You might check to see if there is some sort of error there.

I can't imagine why just mounting the drive would do this to you, but try booting Knoppix with the kernel option noacpi. Then mount the drive, tell Knoppix to reboot, look for any error messages on the way out, and see if Windows still has the problem. If it does, as xmb requested, post the exact error you are getting.

There is no error message windows just restarts the computer, just where the logo should go away, and repeats, and repeats...

When looking at the Knoppix shutdown messages it does not list my Windows partition as being umounted, just the Linux, and Knoppix does not automount the Windows partition on start up, as it did when running from the CD

I have shut of the PNP OS option in the bios, and this stopped windows from doing its infinite loop thing, I will see what happens, but just unistalling all of windows drivers and reinstalling them fixed it last time, so who knows.

I will atempt to access the windows partition from linux, and see what happens I some day I do not need windows for a while.

And if it is any help, it is a Sony Vaio PCG-F450.
