In the old days, we'd look in autoexec.bat and config.sys for programs that automatically started. Then when Windows got here, we'd also look in win.ini and system.ini. Then it was these, plus the startup folder.

But I've looked in all these places, and a lot of what starts isn't there. So how do I find things that automatically start, and make them not? Particularly things like the Game Channel, which tries 10 or 15 times (I have it blocked). Boot time would be a lot faster if I wasn't going through all that each time.

The native tool is msconfig.exe:

Start, Run, msconfig
Look under the Startup tab.
