How the heck do I get XP to stop asking me if I want to install Macromedia Flash player? Since its become nothing but a new type of Pop-up add I don't want it on my PC. The box that pops up has a checkbox to "always trust software from macromedia" but no Never install option.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

If you're using Internet Explorer, you should be able to go to Tools>Internet Options, click the Advanced tab, and uncheck "Enable Install on Demand (Other)". IE won't ask you about installing anything anymore, IIRC.

I learned it the hard way because I had to access some pages remotely via Windows Terminal Services and I got really tired of the system having to send all of that needless animation in ads across the WTS connection.

Actually I tried it and I'm still getting that message coming up asking if I want to install it. Maybe not as often but still there.

why not just install and be done with the messages

surfing the web without flash player is very limiting as more and more sites become truly dynamic

other alternative is to disable all active x controls and turn security to high and only view static pages

over 20% of all new sites are all flash or contain more than 80% flash content and these figures are just going to get higher.

Hmm. I'm almost certain that's how I solved it.

Maybe I instead downloaded the player and then disabled animations and movies in IE, but I don't think so.

I don't want to install because of all the dam Flash advertisments that pop-up. I have a half-way decent pop-up killer program that takes care of the normal pop-up ads but Flash is another. I have yet to visit a web page that I really need it on. It may have started off as an application to enhance web pages but it’s become another annoying advertising tool that I can certainly live without.

Between all the annoying advertising pop-ups and flash pop-ups, the web is becoming less a source of information and more a revenue seeking source.

It’s gotten so bad I actually find normal commercials on TV somewhat of a relief.

Simply unplug your ethernet cord and your problems will disappear.

What do you do when a commercial is on TV? You either watch it, or change the channel.

Advertising is all around you. Your feeble efforts to fight the man are futile - just accept it. Unless you frequent porn sites or about.com, web advertising isn't as bad as you think it is.
