killing handsets

I installed an ACS 6.0 that had been previously installed and worked with no issue. In the new location, with Partner 18 and 18d sets S1(4 total) I am losing handsets at the rate of 1 every couple of weeks. It's been installed since October and I have replaced at least 8 handsets(on a 4 phone system). It is usually the xmit that dies. I have a lot of experience with Partner and have never seen anything like this. Ideas anyone? Static electricity? I initially thought I had a batch of bad handsets but I think some of these are from a different lot.

Possible abuse such as handsets crashing down on the floor? Try using Series II sets and see if anything changes.

Have you grounded the Partner ACS? I would try that.

Anytime a user unplugs the handset cord to untangle while off-hook, they risk blowing-out the transmitter. the detangling must be accomplished while the set is on-hook or unplugged from the line cord.

Update: I grounded the system. Changed to S2 handsets. Advised the customer to use static guard (per an article by Sandman). Instructed customer to not unplug handsets with phone off hook. Result = Still losing handset transmitters. I am about to change out the processor but as I said before, it was previously installed and working. After that, I'm out of ideas.

I wouldn't replace the processor just yet. If you take the phone and plug it straight in the EXT port on the processor does it still not work? Any way you can take a spare known good phone and leave it plugged in an unused EXT port on the processor to monitor?
