I don't know if Nod32 includes a firewall?
If it does that's fine as NOD32 is highly regarded AV Program.
Perhaps you are relying on the Windows firewall.
If this is the case or if you don't have a firewall running at all, then you should get one. Zone Alarm if you want to pay for protection or COMODO if you want a free solution.

Some other more general stuff.
Make sure you have all the latest Security updates for messenger installed. and always ensure wireless networks are security enabled.
Your network router should be acting a a hardware firewall if you have it correctly set-up. But you also need a software firewall running too.

Get rid of ITunes nothing to do with security, its just a really invasive system that will take away all the control you have over your own media collection, but that's just my opinion you might want it that way!

Other than that.
Get hold of SuperAntispyware and DrWebCurit and run scans with these.
In safe mode (Press F8 during boot) is best.

If problems persists, you might need to run some more powerful scanners.

thanks for your help sggaunt. it was much appreciate, but having done what you said, the problem is still occuring.

i'm unable to access any website that will allow me to dload comodo firewall. i was successful in dloading superantispyware and ran it in safe mode, it detected over 500 adware cookies and quarantined/deleted them all but no difference.

with spybot and superanti, it won't let me update virus definitions if that means anything. says it simply can't connect even though they're exceptions in my default firewall. also i still can't access hotmail properly or anything that seems to be related in helping me get rid of whatever i have.

any other suggestions i could try?

Check the HOST file...

any entries other than 127.0.0.1, should be deleted...

easiest way to do this would be to use the program Kimberly's Hosts Manager...

here is more information for you:
