We are having problems with our shells. When a shell is opened the windows comes up but there is no prompt. And when a user logs out they leave phantom shell processes running. These Processes are unkillable as far as I have been able to see. -9 doesn't work and they machine has to be restarted. Has anyone else experienced this? Please let me know ASAP! =) Thanks

I haven't seen this problem in HPUX but it was fairly common in Dynix (the old Sequent version of Unix).

It was always on serial connections rather than on network connections, we suspected it was to do with comms noise or sh reacting badly to an INT signal and hanging. Sorry I can't be of more help, hopefully someone else will be able to pinpoint the issue.
