Hope you can help me here...

I try the command tctl -f /dev/rmt0 erase but I had no response and the process hangs I try to kill the process with kill –9 option but it still remains???

Many thanks

Are you running kill as root ?

Is the tape still in the drive ?

Alex

It probably doesn't hang - erase just takes an inordinate amount of time to complete (and that's why no-one I know uses it!). Check whether it's still there using ps -ef | grep erase.

Hope this helps.

(1) mt -f rmt0 erase
(2) yes - tctl erases tape and will not end unless scsi operation is over

that is right it takes a lots of time but now its is Ok.

Thanks for your responses
