Hello Friends,

I recently started facing a problem. After logging in as root if I start X windows by using "startx" command, the kde loads but the "kicker"(panel) is not displayed. Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem? And also tell me where are the X window desktop settings stored?

Thankx in advance
Awaiting for ur replies..

Any suggestions appreciated.

I think you mean kernel version 2.4.7 build 10. You probably have KDE 2.2.1 or 2.2.2, as there is no KDE 2.4.
As for KDE settings, I beleive each user should have a .kde directory under his or her home directory. Settings for X in general are usually located under /etc/X11, I beleive. Of course, I don't use RedHat or KDE, so I could be mistaken

I have no clue why the panel would not be loading. Did you browse through the control panel to see if you accidentally turned off that setting? You might try renaming the .kde directory and logging out and back in. If KDE fails to find ~/.kde when it loads, it should create a clean default settings directory.

Thankx AdaHacker,

My problem is solved. As u said i renamed my .kde folder and now my system came up with a new configuration. Now its working well and I can see the kicker bar.

I thank you all for ur time.
Shri.
