Keyword Popularity

Is there any way i can check the popularity of keywords i am aiming to use with my website? I have been told about word tracker but i was wondering if you guys new of any free alternatives?

there's Digital Point Overture and Google Adwords and of course you can buy 1 day at Wordtracker for less than a fiver (around $7). and don't forget the most important one is your server logs.

however with all these tools don't take it as gospel, one site I look after makes more sales on phrases that fly under the radar on all these! The high count words\phrases aren't always buyers.
