Will Keystone cat3/5 jack inserts fit into Allen Tel or Leviton face-plates?

I'm trying to save money by getting less expensive Keystone inserts and putting them into already purchased Allen Tel plates that I bought from "Insert well known telecom product source here" store.

Unfortunately, "Keystone" means different things to different people. While all keystone-type jacks have the same basic configuration and dimensions, there are frequently small variations in design from manufacturer to manufacturer. Additionally, it's very difficult to get an exact color match when mixing parts. In short,a "keystone" jack from Company A will probably sort-of fit with the plate from Company B, and the color might be pretty close. You never know for sure until you try them together. Good luck.

The only thing you can do is try it. Allen Tel faceplates accommodate Leviton keystones, but the surface mounts do not. We try to stick to Leviton, because we know the quality. The last time I tried to substitute, I ended up paying a penalty for freight and "saved" about 20 cents a jack!

Now I just negotiate my Leviton price.

BTW Don't even THINK about trying to match Ivory jacks.

I use ICC jacks most of the time, and they work very well with Leviton faceplates and blanks, since ICC does not have all the colors available that Leviton does.

The only way is know is to try them.

I only use Leviton. Quality is good, price is good, and I can get it anywhere in a pinch.

After getting frustrated with the incompatibilities of allegedly "standard keystone" jacks I switched to Panduit. Better design than ANY of the keystone products and easier/faster to terminate.

I keep a case of keystone parts to work on the occasional existing keystone install but it is getting fairly dusty these days. I get tired of having to use a file or dot of superglue to fit or keep a keystone together.

Thanks everyone. Yes, quality is what counts. Leviton can be found everywhere as you said as well. I believe I honestly can get inserts and faceplates cheaper at the home depot type places than at the big wiring/cable/electrical places.
I'm really trying to save my company $$. Every cost saving attempt helps. With the economy in the tank, I'm really grateful that I have a job.
Thanks again.

Just be careful as to what you buy and install. Thats what you are going to be stuck taking care of whether its good or bad. Also I have looked at some of the Home Depot stuff and they are high on lower quality parts IMO.

I can give you a couple places to try and you will save money on good parts.

and these people seem to be a bit higher here but Anixter.

If you do not have any of these locally, let me know and I can give you some of my sales reps numbers.

When is the last time you helped someone, just because you were able to?

HD is very high on Leviton parts compared to my suppliers.

HD want's 19.99 for a box of 10 Leviton cat5, about 2 bucks. Graybar want's an astonishing 4.75 for Allen Tel cat5 jacks.

I'm going to start buying by cat5 jacks and faceplates at HD on my own, and just expense them to my company.

I may even get my 1,000 feet of cat5e on-line as well. I found a place that sells them for 67.00 a box and maybe 20 to ship. GB want's 114.00 a box plus tax.

It's all in the job title, Technical Users get different prices at GB than Vendors :)

That said, I can still get the contractor's pack at HD for less than I can buy 100 5G108's at GB. Problem is I can't use WHITE or IVORY.
