We have a CP1700 whose LCD panel appeared to go bad. I located the part number and successfully ordered it. To my dismay, it did not come with installation instructions AND HP says they only make these available to certified HP technicians.

the printer is out of warranty, and my user is unwilling to pay the rate for an HP technician. I decided since I fix pc's, and have plenty of tools, why not try it?

Does anyone know where I can obtain these instructions. Is anyone familar with this attitude from HP? thank you

Who needs instructions? LOL. Start by looking around the area of the LCD panel. Is the LCD mounted on a removeable piece or is the exterior casing part of a larger part of the casing. Look at screw locations and breaks in the plastic casing panels. Basically just remove visible screws and pry at the plastic panels to see where they are clipped in place and start pulling it apart until you can lift the defective LCD out to replace. Since it's likely all interconnecting plastic clips on the panels carefully force the panels apart. They'll take a beating but don't be too brutal. Just takes a little patience.

Try the HP web site. They have Illustrated Parts Breakdowns(IPB) and service manuals.

Been there. Done that. HP wants me to purchase warranty.

OMG I did the exact same thing! .. I can tell you how to do it.. its wicked easy...

Heres what ya do.. take a flathead screwdriver.. the dark gray pannel that covers the lcd. in the top left and right you will see a little flat area.. you guessed it gouge in that screwdriver and pop off the top... there are 3 tabs on the front (middle, left, right) but if you get the back off it should come off no problem.

under that you'll see everything...
I'm going to guess you got the whole thing and not just the LCD...

basically there are 4 screws and a plug to the left... unplug.. unscrew.. swap.. and repeat process in reverse

see now wasnt that easy?

if you only have the lcd I'm gunna have to say you're on your own with that one... but you should have access to it now...

GL!

Thank you so much for the response. Since I get to do all support here - as in anything that plugs into the wall ;) - I haven't taken a good look at that printer. I hope to this week. I appreciate your response and instructions.

Auger282,

I finally got to this task. You were correct, not so bad at all. I was done in about 30 minutes (and it all works!).

thank you
