[MaxFreeborn]

Hey I have gotten a response from McAfee that a file named Keylog-Ardamax has been downloaded on to my computer. I browsed through the forum and found information on Keylog-Ardamax and did the following:

-downloaded WebRoot Spy Sweeper, ran it and it found some infected files. After deleting them all I ran it again and it said my computer was clear.

- downloaded ewido anti-spyware, ran a scan and deleted the infected items that ewido found

I followed these intructions that were in the forum and then ran HiJack this. I would like to make sure that my computer is clear. Can someone look this information over and tell me if I am in the clear?

go to add/remove ans see if it is in there and uninstall it if it's there!

Before you proceed with the removal directions below you need to turn off SpySweeper's realtime protection as it will interfere with the changes we are trying to make.

Open Spysweeper and click on Options > Program Options.
Uncheck "load at windows startup".
On the left click "shields" and then uncheck everything there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".
Exit the program.
Leave it disabled until we are finished here.




Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find Ewido
Right click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service
Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type"
in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK. Exit the
Services utility.

Note: You may get an error here when trying to access the properties of the
service. If you do get an error, just select the service and look there in
the top left of the main service window and click "Stop" to stop the service. If that gives an error or it is already stopped, just skip this step and proceed with the rest.


You can re-enable this after you are clean!

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Delete on
Reboot. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each
of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has
the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file.
It will ask for confimation to delete the file on next reboot. Click
Yes. It will then ask if you want to reboot now. Click No. Continue
with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of
these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.Then click yes
to reboot after you entered the last one.


Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not
exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you
don't miss any.

I did everything you said; however the online virusscanner from kaspersky.com did not work. I clicked on it and "accepted" the terms of use agreement and nothing happened. It seems to have frozen at the screen were I "accept" or "decline" the agreement. Has this ever happened before?

Well, since the kaspersky virus-scan and spyware online scan did not work I downloaded the trial version of the software (Kaspersky Virus-Scan 6.0) and proceeded to install; however it said I needed to uninstall my McAfee Virus software which I did not do.

You have not removed WeatherBug which is spyware, you cna keep it if you like but it rather defeats the purpose of trying to rid yourself of spyware, there are many other free and clean weather programs like weatherpulse!


Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find NavLogon
Right click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service
Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type"
in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK. Exit the
Services utility.

Note: You may get an error here when trying to access the properties of the
service. If you do get an error, just select the service and look there in
the top left of the main service window and click "Stop" to stop the service. If that gives an error or it is already stopped, just skip this step and proceed with the rest.

double click on it and it will extract to C:\kaspersky. Click
on the kaspersky folder and click on Kavupd, a black dos window will open
and it will update the programme for you, be patient it will take 5-10
minutes to download the new definitions. Once it's updated, click on mwavscan
to launch the programme.

Use the defaults of:

Memory
startup folders
Registry
system folders
services

Choose drive , all drives and, click scan all files
and then click scan/clean. After it finishes scanning and cleaning post
the log here with a new hijack this log.

Note: this is a very thorough scanner, it might take anything up to an hour
or more, depending on how many drives you have and how badly infected your
pc is.



Highlight the portion of the scan that lists infected items and hold
CTRL + C to Copy then paste it here. The whole log with be extremely
big so there is no way to copy the whole thing. I just need the
infected items list.

Hey,

I figured out the Mwav prog and it said that there were 0 viruses on my computer so there is nothing for me to copy and paste to show you, is there? However, it did say that throughout the scan 4 errors did occur. Is this a problem? I am running the scanner again just to make sure nothing was missed.

The CD in the D:\ was my McAfee installation disc. I had that in when I was running the log. When I get home from work I will fix that final file:
