Computer is a P4 1.8ghz
Windows XP SP1 installed
ECS P4VMM v1.0 motherboard
System will run correctly for a while then keyboard stops responding. Mouse still works correctly. Keyboard works again after reboot. Connection for keyboard appears to be in good shape, not loose or anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Yes it happens with other keyboard as well. Also, no errors in error log.

Might be a corrupted Keyboard driver. Is there an updated driver or can you remove and re-install the current driver.

Have a look in Device Manager.

Is it a USB connection?

It happens to my computer at home and also couple of users at work. I have tried different keyboards and no change. However, you might not have to reboot the pc but just unplug and replug the KB does it for me.

The only usb device connected to the computer is a Lexmark X/73 printer/scanner.

Since first posting I reinstalled Windows XP, Ran Doc-Memory from in burn-in mode for 6 loops with no errors, thinking it might be a memory issue.

Customer appears to be a heavy smoker and there was thick nicotine/dirt buildup on processor heat sink and fan. Cleaned heat sink and replaced fan.

Ran computer for about 2 hours with no issues. Sent it home with customer.

Customer claims to have checked e-mail, and played solitaire. Within 1/2 hour computer locked up, mouse would move but unable to click on anything.

She tried to reboot using the power button and says computer was locked up upon reboot.

Do you think that this is a hardware problem?

Thanks for the posts Bcastner, I added the link to my favorites and will inspect the capacitors when/if I get the computer back. Come to find out from customer that the machine is under warranty through Home Shopping Club or QVC and I think she is going to call them to look it over.

Thanks all for the help I will post back if I hear anything from customer.

Leaky capacitors may not be the issue, but when you posted your message I had just come back from a site where it was obvious this was the problem.

I recommended a local repair site that has a guy who is a wizard with a soldering iron. Printed out the following, and told him to do the repairs:
It has worked so far great. Again, this may not be the issue, and my strong preference would be to replace the problem boxes.
