I am using a PS/2 KVM switch to control both my PowerMac G4 733 with OS X , and my AMD Athlon XP PC from one mouse/keyboard. Because it is a PS/2 KVM switch, I have to use a PS/2 to USB adapter. The CTRL/window/Alt are treated as command/option/apple and such. But the keyboard doesnt have a dedicated eject button like the apple keyboard pro. Is there a keyboard shortcut ( using apple/ctrl/option/etc ) that will allow me to eject the CD. I realize if there is a CD existing I can jsut drag it to the trash to eject, but what if there is no CD and I want to put one in?

That was the first thing I tried, but F12 doesnt appear to work in OS X.

hrm..works fine on my Macally iKey replacement keyboard, which has no eject key. Well, the next thing to do is install an eject button in your menu!

Open system:library:coreservices:menu extras
double click on the eject.menu icon

This will add a little icon in your menu for ejecting removable media. The nice thing about this is that if you have multiple drives you can select which one to eject.

best of luck,
PT

Thats perfect, works, my keyboard is an old PS/2 PC keyboard, pluged into the KVM switch, the function keys are probally not recognized by the mac. But yea thats kind of the thing i was looking for.

Wow, that was a life saver! I just got my G5 and thought I was going to have to use the freaking Apple Keyboard instead of my Logitech. Thanks!
