Hello people

Have a problem and was wondering if anyone might have a possible solution. I recenlty formatted a computer, but before I could I had a lot of problems with getting the keyboard to work. I unplug the ps2 and plug it back in, and the 3 lights on the keyboard light up and disappear fairly quickly. I thought that this might be because of a problem with the ps2 female socket on the back of the computer, so I tried using a ps2 to com1 converter which also didn't work. After unplugging and plugging the ps2 for a short while, the keyboard started to work and I was able to format the computer. However, after everything was completed, and the new operating system was installed, the keyboard started giving me the same problems again. Now I just cant seem to get it to work at all. I tried changing the keyboard and even that didn't work. Does anyone know what it might be?

Thank you for all your help

Sounds like your first assumtion may be correct - keyboard socket. It could also be the keyboard ROM on the mother board. Have you tried the keyboard on another computer? I have found some key board plugs that wouldn't plug ALL the way in, due to the plastic shell on the plug extending too far on the metal shell. Try trimming about 1/8" off the plastic part of the plug, so it can be inserted farther. If this doesn't help - time for a new motherboard.
I have small faith in PS/2 to serial adapters - very few work. If the adapter comes in the box with the KB, seems to work most of the time. If you just grab an adapter (I have a shelf full), it never seems to work.
