I don't know when it happened exactly but the seperate number pad on the right of the keyboard no longer works, at first I thought it was a driver issue on the Trust Easy Scroll keyboard but after driver updates the number pad still doesn't work, I then changed the keyboard for a differant one (microsoft internet) and realised that the fault is there with any keyboard, very strange!
There are no buttons stuck, the num lock isn't set and all keyboard controls read as standard 101/102 or Microsoft natural PS2, everything set to default.
All aftermarket keyboard software is now uninstalled but still the number pad doesn't work.
Incidently, the top row numbers work just fine so the PC is usable but this is obviously anoying.
Hardware/software

XP2.1+

My guess would be either the generic driver corrupt (but then the trust driver has no effect) or a damaged PS2 keyboard connection. Any thoughts?

What happens if you hit the <Del> key on this keypad to get into the BIOS? Do you have any diagnostic software available? Good old-fashioned CHECKIT I think has a keyboard individual key test that you can run from DOS.

I doubt a faulty PS/2 socket would be to blame - you'd have most if not all of the other keys not working either!

You could try a complete BIOS reset, even CLR CMOS jumper, or take battery out. Try looking for a BIOS upgrade for this mobo...

Good luck.

I shall check in dos tomorrow, see if it's not a windows problem (daughters PC and she is in bed ATM, 12.30am)
I will try resetting the cmos (I believe some bios have numlock auto enabled?) Let you know tomorrow.
ThanX

Also, check to see if you enabled any Accesibility features in Windows.

I couldn't find your keyboard on a Google search, but some keyboards have a feature to turn the keypad on and off. One was "Fn+Ctrl". Do you have the manual on your keyboard? It may have a special key sequence to activate/deactivate the keypad.

Jim

You said you tried a different keyboard, so I doubt if that would be it, though.

Jim

Despite the fact that I tried two other keyboards (three with the Trust) and none of the number pads worked, a simple enable of a "special hot key feature" on the Trust reactivated the keypad (that'll teach me not to read the manual!!!)
Rather bizzare when you consider one of the keyboards was a boggy basic generic and I removed all 3rd party (Trust) software but still the number pad refused to work.
My only thought is that despite being uninstalled the Trust software must have been effecting the generic keyboard as well.
Computers never cease to amaze me at how illogical they can be at times.
Thanx to all that replied. Martin
