Recently my keyboard has turned totally unresponsive -- but only intermittantly. I concluded that there was a faulty USB cable and decided to buy a new keyboard, then sighed in satisfaction when all the keys worked as advertised.

Then this morning, we had a similar situation all over again, making me doubt that it was a hardware problem after all. Anyone seen this kind of thing before? Any known interferences/conflicts?

Mac OS 9.2.2, on a G4 dual 450, 512M RAM.

According to Apple

"Rule Out Software

Confirm that the problem is not caused by a software conflict or corruption, which will usually affect both keyboard and mouse, and often intermittently. Note, however, that if the keyboard power button cannot be used to power on the iMac, the problem is not in software.

Software issues can be ruled out by attempting such basic troubleshooting steps as starting up with extensions off or starting the computer from the system CD, though note that neither of these steps may be possible if there is a hardware problem with either device or the USB port." article
Even though you replaced the keyboard you could still be dealing with a software issue.
