Hi all,

Strange problme here, I have just installed new hardrive and windows 98 on to it. I have it setup ok now, all except for my keyboard. In windows the keys all respond to their appropriate characters, but when I open a DOS prompt, some keys print out the wrong character to the screen!?!

This is weird, I have tried various different keyboard layout's to make sure I have the right one, and am sure I have selected the correct one.

Any help is much appreciated.

i presume you mean you have tried several keyboard layouts within dos (i think it lives under keyb in the autoexec.bat) rather than within windows???

Hi,

OK from memory the codes for UK in the autoexec.bat you want

mode con codepage prepare=((457) C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ega.cpi)
mode con codepage select=457

and over in the config.sys i think its

Country=044,457,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys

Havent played with these files for a few years now :). I hope the codes are correct.

Paul

Hello,
Sorry about the delay in response, I'm ultra-busy(!!) at the moment. Em, I didn't know anything about setting the layout in DOS until you mentioned it actually! Thanks to paul for the codes but I dont have a uk keyboard, i bought this pc in the middle east, and the keyboard type is (in my windows control panel settings) United States or United States 101, they both work.

I have a better idea of what to search for now, DOS codes for the right layout.
I'll try searching for the codes, and then I guess I just replace the one in autoexec.bat yeah?

I'll wait for a reply before I try the replacement, but I'll see if I can find the codes.

Thanks guys! Chris MacPherson
