Keys on my keyboard are dying, one after another. First it was the m and the space bar, now it is up to almost half of the keyboard . I havent spilled anything on it... I even reinstalled Windows and they worked for a day and then went bad again. This actually has happened before, only three months after I bought the laptop, and I contacted one tech guy, and he told me to do some cool trick with jt, it involved pressing keys a certain number of times, I think, and it worked fine up until now.
Thanx :-&

If it's an older unit, then it may be dying.
If it's under warranty, contact the supplier or manuf.
If it's new and not under warranty, then you have 2 tough choices:
-Have it checked by a repair shop(can be expensive).
-Replace it(expensive).

Or you could just shake it out upside down and then bang it on the desk to get all the food out.

Whenever I here about KB problems, I think of VIRUS. Do a scan of all files on your PC.

Borrow another keyboard. If it works, buy a new or used one. Just make sure you have the right connector. Older ones use a large din. Newer ones use a small one. You can even go to good will or a used computer place and pick one up for $5-10 bucks.

There are probably hundreds of keyboards that get thrown away. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

GreenTara,
The laptop keyboards I have encountered are replaceable- for a high cost. But kep in mind that if they are replaceable, that probably means they plug in somewhere on the system board. Is it possible the tech had you hit a few keys that were over the connection?
Just a thought...

thanks everybody for the good advices, but let me tell you the coninuation of the tragedy... So I reloaded Windows, all the way back to mint factory condition, but the program is on two CD-ROM's and to start the second one you have to hit Enter to agree. Doy you see the irony... My enter button is not working!!!Now the laptop has no OS and no keyboard. Do you think hitting it on my head will do it any good??? It might do me some good not to try to install Windows without at least an Enter button working:)
I cleaned the keyboard, there were no crumbs in it, and now without OS i cannot really do much. Will USB keyboard load without Windows?
Thanks for the support!

I used to have a keyboard and the keyboard had similar problems. I think your laptop keyboard is simply dying. No problem!

Flip the laptop over. Do you see some screw in holes? Is there a letter beside the hole? My notebook had a letter K beside each hole - for keyboard!

Doing this may invalidate your warranty so it's up to you: Remove the screws and your keyboard will lift off the notebook. There should be a connector from the keyboard to the innards of the notebook. Try unconnecting and re-connecting it. This may solve your problem.

Otherwise, call your notebook manufacturer for a new keyboard. They generally aren't that expensive. If your notebook is out of warranty, just replace the keyboard yourself, as I explained above, or pay the extra charges and have them do it.
