I downloaded ie 6.0 and had to restart the server. I went to log back in and the keyboard would not work. I switched out the keyboard, restarted and that was not the problem. I am able to get into bios when I startup, I am able to switch to VGA mode and use Last Known Good, but after that, I cannot use the mouse or keyboard. I really need help!!

Is there any way that you could manage the server remotely?

Can you boot to another drive, with a different Operating System?

Do you get the Blue Screen of Death?

Unfortunately, I cannot manage it remotely or boot to another drive. I don't get the blue screen, either. It posts correctly, then goes to:press ctrl, alt, del to log on. At this point, the keyboard and mouse will not work. Any suggestions as to what I can do??

If you can't get into it, I would personally try to get control of it remotely, like rtichnor suggested.

I had a similar situation before, and I downloaded a remote control utility from It enables you to install the agent remotely ( from your desktop ), and you should then be able to take control of the server. Once in you can try to fix the problem with the keyboard.

The utility is available on a 30 day trial so you don't have to worry about finding a budget for some new software.

Once you've sorted out the problem you should probably put some remote control software on the server in case it happens again. If you don't have a budget, you can always use something like VNC as it's free!
