Well seems like there is some very intelligent people here, perhaps somone could help. For some reason IE refuses to open apps like My MSN and Messanger. Not a terrible tradgedy I know but I'll be humped if I can fix it. I ran troubleshoot and the only connectivity issues are the Key ports (I confess i have no idea how to fix this.) I switched to FireFox and I can access things like Hotmail but not messanger.

Anyone want to help solve this puzzle?

If this works then I expect to receive a generous humping...

Anyway, search the web for information on how to block MSN Messenger. Look for specific hosts and ports. I did a quick check and apparantly the software has multiple modes of communication.

A microsoft KB article contained the following as a workaround for some particular exploit for MSN Messenger so might be able to extrapolate backwards from there:
[tt]
Block access to MSN Messenger and Web Messenger in a corporate environment.

1. Block access to outgoing port 1863 in your corporate environment.
Note MSN Messenger Service is connected through port 1863 when a direct connection is established. When a direct connection cannot be established, the MSN Messenger Service is connected through port 80.

2. Block HTTP access to messenger.hotmail.com. If you would like to block access to MSN Web Messenger you will also need to block HTTP access to webmessenger.msn.com.

Also here is a link to some ports used by the software:

Many thanks for the info will let you know when i get chance to fix it. I have been using e-messanger for the mo.

please go to internet properties/click on security tab/make sure all icons internet, localintranet, trusted sites, restricted sites are all on the default settings.
Then click the security tab then click sites below to the right. make sure there are no sites here listed under web sites if there is delete them.

also i would click the trusted sites icon then click sitesbelow to the right. add *.msn.com,*.passport.com,*.hotmail.com to the trusted sites list. please be sure to uncheck the REQUIRE SERVER VERIFICATION before typing that in there and leave it unchecked.

this here should allow you to go to these sites if it's sometype of incorrect option that is causing this, but if its internet explorer you might need to reinstall it.

msn and internet explorer are very closely related since internet explorer carries all browsing options for msn so if internet explorer is having issues then you will also experience this in msn.

GOOD LUCK!

Some people make things happen, some people watch things happen, while others wonder what happened.
